Privacy Policy

SafePlate Travel helps you communicate your food allergies and dietary needs to restaurant staff in their language. To do that, we store information you give us, including sensitive allergy and medical details. This page explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. It is written in plain language on purpose.
What we collect
- Your account. Your email and name, handled by our authentication provider when you sign up.
- The cards you create. The allergies, dietary identities, severity levels, and any free-text notes you enter. If you choose to add an emergency card, that also includes the medical conditions, adrenaline-injector location, blood type, and emergency contact names and phone numbers you enter.
- Basic usage. Counts and timestamps of when you show a card and when you were last active. We do not track your location and we do not keep a per-event history of where or what you showed.
- How you found us. If you arrive through a tagged link, we store a short source code (for example, which community or campaign referred you) so we know which outreach works.
How we use it
- To build, translate, and display your card so a server can understand it.
- To send you essential account email, such as a welcome message.
- To understand product usage in aggregate and improve the app.
- To prevent abuse of our translation service.
- If you arrived through a paid advertisement, to tell that ad platform that you signed up so we can measure which ads work. We share only a one-way hash of your email and the fact that a signup happened. We never share what is in your card.
We do not sell your data. We do not use the information you put inside the app (your allergies, dietary identities, notes, or emergency details) for advertising.
AI translation
Standard allergens and dietary terms are pre-translated and stored by us. When you add your own free text (a custom allergen name or a personal note), that text may be sent to Google's Gemini API to translate it into the languages you need. Translations are cached so common phrases are only ever translated once.
Sharing
You can create a private share link so a partner or family member can view your card. The link uses a long random token and is not indexed by search engines. Your emergency card (medical conditions and contact details) is included in a public share link only if you explicitly turn that on. You can revoke a share link at any time.
Service providers
We rely on a small number of providers who process data on our behalf:
- Authentication and account management.
- Database and application hosting.
- Google's Gemini API for translating your free text.
- Transactional email delivery.
- Rate limiting to prevent abuse, which processes IP addresses for that purpose.
- Privacy-friendly, cookieless usage analytics.
- Advertising platforms (such as Meta), to confirm signups attributed to their ads. We send only a one-way hash of your email, your IP address, and your browser type. We never share the contents of your card.
These providers may process data in countries other than your own, including the United States.
Cookies and local storage
We use only what the app needs: authentication, your theme preference, your selected trip languages, and a first-touch referral cookie. Our analytics is cookieless. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Your data and your control
You can edit or delete your cards at any time inside the app. We keep your data while your account is active. To delete your account and the data tied to it, email us and we will take care of it.
Children
SafePlate Travel is intended for adults. A parent or guardian may create and manage a card that describes a child's allergies. We do not knowingly collect information directly from children.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy as the product grows; we will change the date above when we do. Questions or requests: hello@safeplatetravel.com.
